Book Circulation

When I was a librarian, the 743 drawing books were constantly in circulation.

Which books are in high demand in your library?

  1. Dogs, Cats, Horses, Sharks, Lego (esp.Harry Potter), Star Wars, Mo Willems anything, Mercy Watson anything, Skippyjon Jones, Inventions, Fact Books like Guinness World Records, Ripleys Believe it or Not, Captain Underpants, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Any Graphic Novels -like Bones & Baby Mouse (though I think Zita the spacegirl is going to be a hit when more of the series comes out), and of course -Drawing Books.

    1. If I hadn't become a librarian, I may have never come across Mo Willems. The very thought hurts me a great deal.

  2. When I was the librarian at the old Nibley Park one year our principal had a mural painted on the library wall. It was a darling bookshelf with well known and loved characters from children's literature along with their books on the shelf. There was amelia bedelia, the little boy from a snowy day, the phantom toll booth, and many more but right in the center was CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS. I was so stressed by this because as I explained to my principal in 20 years kids would still be able to identify all the other characters on the shelf, but no one will know who that funny man in his underpants is. I never thought he would last......little did I know. Now almost 20 years later I am still buying more captain underpants books every year to replace the ones that have been lost or worn out. I think every 2nd-3rd grade boy in our school has read the entire series.

  5. I am amazed at the number of boys I have checking out books. Their favorites are, of course, graphic novels - particulary Scott Pilgrim. Do I care that they are checking out graphic novels? Absolutely not. They are reading. That's what I care about. The other books that are checked out by the boys are the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. Not high level reading either but they will get there, eventually:)

  7. The First Grade classes at Uintah are studying Mo Willems. The student flocked to the "Ws" to get his books. When i received the first of his books I thought they were very simple and could not see the appeal...until I read to the students. They loved it!
