Reading Gives You Super Powers

What a fun video from Dav Pilkey.  What are some ways you might  use this video in your library?  It's only a little over a minute long.

  1. I might use this in a media lesson and have students create posters that show how reading gives you super powers.

  2. This could be used as an introduction to writing or creating creative book reviews.

  3. I have 9th graders coming into the library this week for book talks and book check out. I am going to use this as an introduction to my book talks.

  4. I talked to my 4th- and 5th-graders about how the more you read the happier you are, proven in four logical steps: 1) the more you read, the better you read; 2) the better you read, the better you do in school; 3) the better you do in school, the more choices you have; and 4) the more choices you have, the happier you are. This video will make a great visual about the same idea. And watching him draw is fascinating.

  5. I'll use this video in a couple of ways. I like the idea of using it with a media lesson. I also can use it to introduce all the new books I just ordered. The PTA gave me some money this year and I included some Captain Underpants books by Dav Pilkey! Ours are in terrible shape but they are a constant request. Since I hate to buy them with the regular library budget, I can feel good about purchasing them because they are requested so often. And hey-if they love reading them, who knows what supperpowers they might develop!

  6. I think it would be fun to have students use Adobe Photoshop and cut out their face and put it on a super hero. Or make their own super hero and then put their face on it. After that use the 6 Word Memoirs for six words to describe their hero.

  7. This is a great video. I will use it in my library. The kids love Dav Pilkey! He is irreverant in a good way. I also have a terrible time keeping the Captain Underpants books in useable shape. Great idea Jill. I think I might try this with some of my classes. Pam, I love your comments, Knowledge is Power!
