In June, I had a chance to spend a few days in Sedona, Arizona. It was great to relax, read, eat good food, hike in the gorgeous red rock landscape, and enjoy the company of my family.
We visited a funky, little ghost town called Jerome that is nestled in the hills just outside of Sedona. It was fun to explore the town and learn about its history.
Sedona is such an interesting place to visit. It has its own unique atmosphere with its art galleries and "new age" ambiance. My family hopes that we can travel to Sedona again soon.
What are some of the fun things that you did this summer? I would love to hear about your adventures!
Ahh, yes!! I went to visit family in Iowa. My sister, her daughter and my daughter packed into a car and drove to a wonderful resort in northern Minnesota. The best moment was when a windshield wiper broke in pooring rain with thunder and lightning along a busy highway. My niece fixed it using a plastic grocery bag (my daughter's suggestion, which I had at first poo-pooed) as a string to bind it back on. My sister and I laughed so hard it was dangerous to drive. Then followed days of homemade cobbler, kayaking, swimming, and enjoying the company of women I love. Also this summer I backpacked with my boyfriend and camped at Henry's Lake in Idaho. We were thrilled and terrified to be charged by a large moose there. A lot of hiking, skateboarding, and visiting with people I love has made this one of my best summers ever.
ReplyDeleteVacation was short but sweet this summer. I spent 3 days in Ketchikan AK. fishing. We had a great time catching salmon and halibut. We saw whales, dolphins, sea lions, seals, eagles and bears. All was grand until Alaska Air managed to leave our box of fish off of our return flight. It finally arrived in SLC 36 hours later and definitely not frozen anymore. Ah well......... It was the experience and not the fish, right?
ReplyDeleteI did swim lessons with my daughters for two weeks straight. My oldest went to her lesson while I played with my youngest in the leisure pool. Then we would play all together after my daughter was done with her lesson. Often my husband could come as well. We cooled off, laughed and just relaxed together
ReplyDeleteWe went to Portland for son-in-law graduation, then had my son's wedding and it feels like all I did was house-guests and house projects!

Most of my summer was spent at the beautiful Bear Lake. I was able to purchase a modest mobile home and now I do not have to struggle to set up a pop-up tent trailer - although it really was good for my biceps. I can enjoy a fabulous view of the lake and I don't have to worry about the wind blowing over my trailer.
ReplyDeleteI also spent two weeks in Bothell, Washington (near Seattle) visiting my daughter. Leaving a state that was in the process of burning up and going to such a green place was really refreshing. We took a little trip to Canada, saw beautiful gardens and waterfalls. My dog was really excited about the squirrels in my daughter's yard. They were twice the size of the squirrels at Bear Lake.
My summer was FABULOUS:)
Have any of you been to Slide Rock in Sedona? It's like a waterpark slide made from nature. I went many years ago.
ReplyDeleteIt was always interesting growing up to look for Slide Rock on the way from Phoenix to Oak Creek Canyon and Flagstaff. Sometimes we stopped to watch people slide down the large, steep rock.
DeleteMy summer vacation was getting a new knee. But it sure feels better. It was sooooo scorching hot all summer, I was happy to be indoors with the central air and my ice machine.
ReplyDeleteSedona brings memories as I grew up in Phoenix and each summer vacation was spent partly in Oak Creek Canyon near Sedona. It was a surprise to visit Sedona last year and see the contrast from one main road with a gas station, motel, and artists painting by the roadside to a town in some ways similar to Scottsdale, AZ.
ReplyDeleteI love exploring ghost towns...there are several near Elko, Nevada...I found one where it appeared that the residents just left quickly...curtains still hanging in the kitchen windows...dishes,pots, and pans still on the counter....creepy...sort of like the Anasazi question:)
