ALOHA!
I had the wonderful opportunity to travel to Hawaii, for a week, over President's Day. My entire extended family (22 of us) rented a beach house in Kailua, Hawaii. It was our Christmas to each other this year and I have been looking forward to it for some time now.
One of the things I have wanted to do is hike the Haiku Stairs - "Stairway to Heaven" near Kaneohe. The Haiku Stairs are approximately 4,000 stairs that lead up to a radar tower used in World War II.
You have to sneak in to this hike before the guard arrives at 3:00am. 15 of our 22 people conquered the "Stairway to Heaven." It was dangerous and scary and difficult, but there were breathtaking views from the top.
I absolutely love that my family and especially my children commit to doing these crazy things that I come up with to do. I can now mark this off my "bucket list."
Is there something you are aspiring to do or something you hope to mark off your "bucket list?"

Glogster - Maybe a Beginning of the Year Presentation?
Check out this great Glog that Marianne made. Don't miss the little video she embedded. Her dog has admirable self-control!
She also put a Wordle right into her Glog. It's about her favorite books. :-)
This would be a fun thing to show to students at the beginning of the year.
If you experiment with Glogster, don't forget to use Glogster.Edu---not regular Glogster.

In what ways do you highlight/display the Beehive Book Award nominees in your library?
Throughout the year, are you able to read the picture book nominees to your students?
Do you book talk the other nominees?
Do you have students vote for their favorites? If so, how do you handle that?

Inventory
Inventory can be a difficult part of the job of a Library Technology Teacher because it's hard to fit into busy library schedules. But it's a good feeling when it's all finished because we know that the records for our holdings are now accurate.
What are your tips and tricks for surviving inventory? Do you have suggestions to make it go more smoothly?

Reading to Your Class
When I was in elementary school, I have happy memories of many of my teachers reading out loud to us. I particularly remember one of my teachers reading Where the Red Fern Grows.
And then I grew up! And then I became a teacher, too! And then I had a class of my own to read to! I'm grateful to the example of my own grade school teachers and their dedication to reading out loud. I taught 3rd grade for many years, and I read to my students every day after lunch. One of my favorite books to read aloud was The BFG. I read it to every class every year, and they loved it!
Sadly, with today's tight school schedules, it is often difficult for classroom teachers to be able to fit in some time to read aloud each day.
What books do you remember your own teachers reading aloud to you when you were young?
When you were a classroom teacher, what books did you read aloud to your students?
