I don't know what it means that I have read every one of the Caldecott books but not one of the Newbery. Shorter attention span these days? Except for Locomotive, these Caldecotts have very minimal (if at all) words, but the illustrations are stunning.
ReplyDeleteSO now to get them - that is the challenge. I am glad I took advantage of BTSB's reservation offer. It worked well last year, and I hope it does this year as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this list! I am glad I saved some funds.
ReplyDeleteThis is always such an exciting time of year! PLEASE let the Newbery be a good one!!
ReplyDeleteI have loved all of Kate DiCamillo's books and purchased Flora & Ulysses the first day King's English had it. Unfortunately, I haven't read it yet. I guess it goes to the top of my list.
ReplyDeleteI like the winners, now just to find them and get them on my shelf.
ReplyDeleteI hear great things about Flora & Ulysses from our ELP teacher, Nathan, who also works in the children's section of Kings English on Saturdays....and who may work on his endorsement to become a Library Tech teacher; he'd be amazing. I need to get my hands on the book. It's off the wall.
ReplyDeleteI have not read Flora and Ulysses yet, but it is ordered and I just am waiting for it to come. I am glad to know the winners and look forward to reading and re-reading them all.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that Journey and Mr. Wuffles got honors, they are wonderful. I skimmed Flora & Ulysses and didn't like it, I will have to give it a good read through.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any of the Caldecott or Newbery winners. We are in to crime and Bob Marley over here. Seriously, I need to spend some time reading the winners.
ReplyDeleteJill - You are so funny! But accurate... You want some of my Bob Marley books?
DeleteI enjoyed Paperboy, I would have liked to see the book Wonder, one of the Beehive books, on the list. One of our fifth grade classes read it and really liked it as did I. I will now have some books that others like to check out. I enjoy reading the critiques of the books.
ReplyDeleteIt's always fun to see the winners but hard to track them down until they will start mass producing them. I love Mr. Wuffles and Journey so will track down the others too! Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI just realized I have already read One Came Home and didn't like it at all. I don't recommend it for elementary level, its grim, not in a fun or educational way either.
ReplyDeleteFor those who have read these, please tell me which ones would be good for secondary schools... :)
ReplyDeleteWe just finished a book fair with Sarah at the Story Cupboard. She had many of the winners and runner-ups at the fair. If you are having trouble locating one you might give Sarah a call. I'm just glad that the Newberry is more age appropriate for elementary school this year.
