Groundhog's Day

Sometimes I forget the details of how Groundhog's Day works when the groundhog is rudely awakened and forced to come out in the cold.

When the groundhog comes out, if the weather is bright and the sun is shining, then the groundhog will see his shadow---and that will alarm him---and so he'll go back into his burrow---and it means that winter will continue for 6 more weeks.

If the weather is overcast and the sky is cloudy, then the groundhog won't see his shadow---and that means that spring will arrive early.

This just kind of doesn't make sense to me!

But, nevertheless,  what is your prediction?  Shadow YES or Shadow NO?

  2. Whether he sees his shadow or not I fear we are still in for two more months of winter. There are some good ebooks on our Follett Shelf that deal with groundhog day, both entertaining and informational.

  3. Sometimes I feel like a groundhog. I have to be forced out into the cold. If we go by Punxsutawney Phil I think he will see his shadow. Please do not let it be me and my shadow, based on the smog, haze and lack of sun in this city! I am going with Phil and I say he NO Shadow! Be brave PHIL.

  5. I am also hoping very strongly for NO SHADOW. I need sunshine and warmer weather. Right now I will even tolerate the 90's.

    1. Sarah, I do hope you are OK--it sounds like you are on quite an incline to slide into the street--scary with cars coming & going!

  10. Ouch, Sarah. I predict, however, shadow. We have a meteorologist at our school, and I see her shadow frequently. I think that's why it rains ice. Or the fact that we have no carpoolers. Shadow.

  12. Memory seems to say that most years he does see his shadow, so my usual optimism is failing me as I predict he will see his shadow.

  13. So Where are we talking?
Pux. Phil, or Sunset Sam? If Phil sees his shadow - more winter, But if Sam sees the sunset, then that is more winter.

Either-way, It has been a long time since we have had a real serious winter arround here - and I am GLAD FOR IT - So I vote for more winter, Then let spring realy come when it should.
