Home Run Books

Isn't it a great feeling when you are sharing a book with students, and you look out at them---and they are hooked!  They are totally involved in the book you are sharing with them.  Their eyes are happy, they are engaged, and they are thoroughly enjoying every word.

Do you have a particular book that is a "home run" every time you share it with students?  ..

  3. Thanks to Linda M. introducing this book to us, "The Perfect Nest" has become a favorite. I even had a couple of kindergarten class applaud after I read it to them.

  8. There are tons of books but the very most favorite book I share with all the kids is Hershel and the Hanukah Goblins. I can read it without looking at it I've read it so many times. But every year when they walk into the library and see that book in my basket in the Kiva I can hear them whisper....It's the Goblin book. She's going to read the Goblin book, be quiet its the Goblin book.

  9. Kids at my school really like the Betty Bunny books, and they are on the edge of their seat when I read The Dark (though I skip that one long page toward the end).

  10. Oh, Stephanie, I love "Are You a Horse." I tell about books when the movie is coming out. "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Greene is coming pretty soon.

  11. An old favorite is 50 below Zero by Robert Munsch. We snore and make door opening sound effects. We stand up and turn around and act out a few other parts. I love the interaction. Another great read aloud is Robot Zot by Sciezka and Shannon. A good way to demonstrate "Robot Reading" (what not to sound like). Even older graders like Zot. I also love Press Here...it is so magical. Piggie Pie is another winner. We sing the parts that sound like "Old McDonald". I like to give the wolf a New York accent. Then we vote on who ate lunch....the wolf, or Gritch? And of course, Stinky Cheese Man. I make the little red hen sound like she has PMS. The kids love it when the giant eats her....ding, ding chicken sandwich!
