A new one I like is called Monster's Monster. It is not exactly Halloween-themed, but monsters make it fit. It's a cute story about friendship and being who you are.
Some favorite Halloween books at NW for new readers are "In the Haunted House" & "Scary, Scary Halloween", both by Eve Bunting, plus "The Fierce Yellow Pumpkin" by Margaret Wise Brown. "Happy Haunting, Amelia Bedelia" adds a touch of humor to Halloween.
Like Tamara, I loved spooky books. I used to tell stories in the dark. I would have a flashlight shining on my face. I would go home with a headache every day, but it was fun.
I just read Robot Zombie Frankenstein by Annette Simon, and the kids loved it. They laughed and giggled. We looked at the shapes on the end pages and talked about how all the pictures are made of those shapes.
I need a copy of Big Pumpkin. Is it still in print? Two of my favorite stories are "Lucy Dove" and "The Banshi Train." They don't mention Halloween, but they are good scary stories.
I like Carl Reiner's "Tell me a scary story--but not too scary" The CD comes with it, and it is just scary enough for 1st and 2nd grade!
ReplyDeleteI like this one too!
