World Book Online

Can you provide us with feedback about World Book Online?

As you know, we purchase the extra World Book databases each year, and we would love to hear about if/how/when you use them.

Can you let us know the following information?  We are concerned that the databases are not displaying properly, and we are trying to troubleshoot the problems we are having.

1. Please go to Pioneer Library via the Quicklinks on the district page.  Once in Pioneer, click on World Book Encyclopedia.  Can you please let us know if it says Welcome Salt Lake District at the very top---or if it says Welcome Utah Education Network?

2. While you are in World Book, look down at the bottom of the page.  You should be able to see links to the extra databases the we subscribe to.  They are Early Peoples, Inventions and Discoveries, Living Green, Dramatic Learning, Advanced, Hispanica Saber, etc.  Please let us know if you see those links.

3. Now leave Pioneer and go back to the district page.  Go back to Quicklinks.  This time, click on World Book Online.  Tell us what you see.  Do you see all of the extra databases?

4.  Do you or your classroom teachers use any of the extra databases?

Thanks for providing us with this information!

  1. I don't think it gets much use at Clayton, sorry to say.

  2. 1.) I see "Welcome Utah Education Network".
2.) I do not see what was suggested. Sorry. I checked with another teacher, too.
3.) It seems this is a duplicate of the first in (1).
4.) Teachers and students use what is available.

    1. #1 is to access World Book through Pioneer. #3 is to access World Book through the non-Pioneer World Book link that is in Quicklinks. Thanks for trying!

  3. When I go into the district World Book I see all of the databases that you mentioned we should have, and it welcomes you to Salt Lake District. When I went to Pioneer I could see the databases Timeline, Kids, Students, Enciclopedia Estudiantil Hallazgos, and it welcomed you to the Utah Educational Network. I know that some of our teachers use World Book on a regular basis, but I think many of the new databases they may not know about. I need to do a presentation for the faculty again, it has been awhile. I think they would love Timelines, Dramatic Learning, Living Green, and Discover. They are great!

  4. Okay, not such an easy response from me....I just was showing one of the 6th grade teachers the new databases in the district site, and well, when I went to World Book Online, it did not bring up the district site but the UEN site. I had just been in our district site not even five minutes before. Problems....Right here in River City!

  5. Here I am again, I really do have a life, but I went to another computer, logged in and went to World Book Online and got the district site. Strange.

  6. Dawn Ann, This is one of the problems we are seeing. The extra databases are available sometimes from the World Book link--and then 10 minutes later they're NOT available. And we're hardly ever seeing them when we access World Book through Pioneer. So everything that you documented verifies what we're experiencing. Thanks!

  7. I see the welcome - Welcome Utah Education Network. However, I do not see the database links.
I have been using the World Book online but not the databases as they do not show up on the welcome page.
I do not know if teachers use the World Book Online tools.

  8. The welcome on mine says Salt Lake School district on both the pioneer library and the worldbook online from quick links. The database links are there on both of them. May be you have already fixed the problem. I didn't have time, until just now

  9. I had the following results at Hawthorne:
Using both the Pioneer and the District Quicklinks - both pages say UEN at the top and do not display the extra databases that we subscribe to.

I have given out the online login information in the past for my research students to use - mostly on their own. I try to have them use the other Pioneer resources - especially EBSCO - while in the library doing research, simply because of time and equipment limitations..

  10. Everything appeared as it should yesterday but I just got on today and it appears right on the World Book Online link but does not on the pioneer link. It says welcome to UEN and does not show all the databases. I use World Book Kids and World Book Student. I like to use the screen reader and click on words and have them defined. Quite frequently these features do not work. It is frustrating. I do not use the other databases and I do not think the teachers at my school do either.

  11. When I go to Quicklinks and then click on World Book, without going to Pioneer, I get Welcome UEN. Then there are only 4 databases: Timeline, Kids, Students, Hallazgos. When I go through Pioneer and click World Book, I get all the databases, and it says Welcome SLCSD. I have only used Kids and Students. We do mostly science topics so that works best for us. I tried doing the ebooks and bibliography tool, but it was a little too complicated for my crew.

  13. I see Welcome UEN. I just used World Book for 3rd grade research, and I used it for scavenger hunts during regular library time. I have the kids use the Pioneer Links from the Riley website, so the link may be incorrect.
