iPad Fun

What fun things have you done with your new iPads now that you've had them for a week?

I've used my iPad to check my email while at the doctor's office, taken a picture of the snow at my house, played a few games, looked up a movie schedule for my daughter, read a library article, and loaded two fun spelling apps.

  1. I have been collecting a list of apps from Free Technology for Teachers, but haven't downloaded any yet. Excited for these days off in a row to get to play with the iPad.

  4. I synced my ipad and added all my apps that I already had to my newest member of my family. I read an entire book on my ipad this last long weekend, played Words with Friends with my daughters, checked my email, learned how to share photos using PhotoStream, and listened to Christmas music while putting up my decorations on Friday. I love my ipad!!!!

  6. I purchased iMovie and made a trailer for the book How Rocket Learned To Read. It is on my library blog. Sometime in the near future, I plan to have the students use it to create trailers.I also watched some TED Talks while lying in bed. I have the Netflix app, so you can see where this is going.

  7. I downloaded Pre-K apps and have had my daughter experiment with them. I also got facebook, skype and the netflix app. I have taken pictures and some videos. My daughter experimented with the photo booth and took some really cool pictures. I also used Thanksgiving commercials that I projected from you tube for a media lesson.

  8. Well, since I can't use it at school, I have read a book, payed more attention to Facebook. My cousin and a former teacher friend from school are playing games with each other. I facebooked all my second cousins and found out what they have been doing. What are we going to do with the book we got, Blue Fish? I like using it for everything because I can take it anywhere. I can't do that with my home computer.

    1. I just spoke to our tech about this and he said that since it is an Apple product, you don't need virus protection; they just don't get viruses.

  10. You can make your Wifi secure by making there be a password you have to use to get on. There should be a phone number on your router if you are using a router that you can call and they can assist you with this.

  11. I have enjoyed my iPad almost full-time during the break while my daughter, son, and I were celebrating Thanksgiving.

I am going to use the wonderful wikispaces with the iPad at school beginning this week and rejoice in my super iPad.

I imagine that I will be using the iPad all the time at school!

Thank you for your leadership Julie, Linda, and all.

  13. Serious? Apple never gets viruses. So I could feel comfortable checking my bank?

  14. Hi Jill and Group

A jailbroken ipad or phone, specifically lets the user install applications from sources outside the App Store. If this is the case, you could possibly get a virus:(....but other than that the chances are slim to none.

  15. I've loved being able to take photos of the kids. I'm in Girls On the Run and took photos of our girls after a big run around Liberty Park. I like that I was quickly able to send the photos to the GOTR coordinator. I've also had too much fun taking some crazy photos of kids using Photo Booth. I did this before school and now kids want to come into the library to make crazy photos insteead of reading. They did a delightfully awful one of me as well. I loved that this was a great source of giggles.

  16. I'm working on finding a Bluetooth scanner so I can roam around the library with my iPad (you KNOW how effective proximity is when you're working with students!) and check out books. Wish me luck! Also, I've started a new behavior program where I keep track of students' behavior in each class on Classdojo.com. Then I know who to give rewards to after the 2 week period.

  17. The new iPad actually travelled to Henderson, NV, for Thanksgiving and the annual SFR (Sutherland Family Reunion). During our stay everyone was enamored with the iPad. Pictures were taken with it and added to InstaGram which was introduced and explained to me by children & grandchildren.
Upon arrival home, the iPad (because it is so special) received a new $4.99 App--Paprika Recipe Manager.
In addition, much work has been done in filling out the calendar. A great thank you to John Kelly for his endurance in helping me to sync my calendars.
Thank you, thank you for the new iPad--I love it so much.

  18. Wow. Thank you, John Kelly, for the training yesterday. I played with Siri alot last night. She is kind of like an imaginary friend. I didn't have any idea we could do so many things on the settings. I can't wait for the next training. I tried to sync my iTunes library to the iPad. Still having trouble, so maybe you could include that in the training.

  19. The training last night was fabulous. I learned some really fun things that I did not know before like how to get the emoticons to use in notetaking. That was awesome!!! I also having a stimulating conversation with Siri last night. When the only living thing in your apartment is your dog, you look for other ways to stimulate communication skills. Siri was it last night. It was really hysterical. I also organized all my apps so they are somewhat more manageable. Isn't technology wonderful?!!
